I always have an issue when people say “I’m getting off social media completely.”
What, you’re going to tell me that you don’t have the self-discipline and personal awareness to decipher between content that’s helping you grow and content that numbs your brain and entertains you?!
How you use something determines what you get from it. A lot of people pick up a basketball to entertain themselves on evenings and weekends. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant used that same basketball to create legacy, impact, change the game, and become worth millions and billions.
Iron sharpens iron. The more successful people you follow offline or online, the more you start to think and act like them, making life decisions and choices like they do.
If you live in an area of the country, your city, your suburb, your neighborhood… where you feel your mindset and ambitions transcend your current situation, find new association. Associate with people who are where you want to be, who’s life emulates the goals and dreams you have for yourself.
Today, new association doesn’t have to be changing your physical location. Because of today’s Information Age, you can have new association on your couch. Enter today’s MULTIPLE platforms of social media (remember when we only had MySpace and AIM before even Facebook? Sheesh, rough). Now social media is not a replacement for being physically around people who sharpen you and call you to a higher standard, but it’s a great place to start.
Use social media to grow yourself, not entertain yourself.
Entertainment is fleeting.
Personal growth and commitment to your journey impacts you permanently.
I follow all my mentors and coaches direct and indirect on some form of social media. And 99% of the time (outside an ESPN highlight or not top 10 blooper), I’m consuming their content, learning and growing.
I follow what they’re doing to get themselves to the next level.
Today, so much success is everywhere and all the “secrets” are everywhere, that I start to realize the main reason that people don’t get to where they want to be or create the opportunities in life for themselves that their soul deeply desires is simply due to a lack of effort, discipline, and wherewithal to seek out the answers to their life problems…
AND THEN…ACT in a certain way in APPLYING that solution and knowledge.
I’ll tell you this, I’ve learned more about sales, business, fitness, health hacks, productivity, energy, strength training, muscle building, sports performance, etc. more on social media and online in the last 5 years, than ALL of my 13 years of traditional education and 4 years at a private university combined.
And here’s the crazy part…MOST OF IT WAS AND IS FREE!
There’s NO excuse for you not to be your best self and chase greatness.
Transcend. Rise Above. Go Be Great.
